Lighting FAQ – Answers about LED, indoor lighting, outdoor lighting, installation and delivery | My Planet Led

How many lumens do I need for my living room?

For a living room, you generally need between 100 and 150 lumens per square metre. So for a 20 m² space, you’d need around 2,000 to 3,000 lumens in total. Dark walls, indirect lighting or high ceilings may require more output. If you have multiple light sources, the total can be divided across them. If you want exact guidance, Franky can calculate the ideal lighting level for your space based on photos and room size.

What is the difference between watts and lumens?

Watts measure how much energy a lamp consumes, while lumens measure how much light the lamp actually produces. With LED lighting, lumens are the important value, because LEDs use far fewer watts to achieve the same brightness. If you’re replacing halogen or incandescent bulbs, you should compare lumens, not watts. If you’re unsure what you need, you can simply reply to our email and Franky will help you choose.

Which colour temperature should I choose for my home?

Colour temperature is measured in Kelvin (K). Warm white (2700K–3000K) creates a cosy and relaxed feel and is ideal for living rooms and bedrooms. Neutral white (3500K–4000K) suits kitchens, workspaces and home offices. Cool white (5000K+) is rarely used in homes, except for hobby or task-intensive rooms. If you send a photo of your interior, Franky can recommend the right colour temperature.

Can I dim LED lighting?

Yes, but only if both the LED light and the driver are dimmable. Standard dimmer switches don’t always work properly with LEDs. Flickering, buzzing or limited dimming range usually indicate incompatibility. Franky can check your existing wiring and recommend the right dimmer so everything works smoothly.

How high should a pendant light hang above a dining table?

A typical guideline is 60 to 75 cm above the tabletop. Wider tables, open-bottom shades or very bright bulbs may require a bit more height. Cluster pendants can vary for a layered look. If you tell us your table width, ceiling height and lamp type, Franky can suggest the perfect height.

Which IP rating do I need for the bathroom?

Bathrooms are divided into safety zones. Zone 2 (areas near showers or bathtubs) requires at least IP44. Direct splash zones may require IP65. In areas without water exposure, IP20 is usually fine. Send a photo and Franky will tell you exactly what is safe and compliant.

Which lighting is suitable for outdoor use?

Outdoor lighting must withstand moisture, wind and temperature changes. IP44 is suitable for covered patios, while IP65 is recommended for exposed areas. Material matters too — aluminium, stainless steel and powder-coated finishes last longest. Franky can guide you based on style, location and light spread.

How do I choose the right size ceiling light?

A simple formula: (room length + room width in metres) × 10 = ideal diameter in centimetres. Long spaces may suit rectangular or linear lighting better. Low ceilings benefit from slim or flush fixtures, while high ceilings can handle larger designs. Franky can compare options if you send a photo.

Are LED lamps energy efficient?

Yes. LEDs use up to 80% less energy than incandescent bulbs and up to 60% less than halogen. They generate less heat, last longer and reduce long-term costs. Franky can calculate how much you would personally save based on your usage.

How long does LED lighting last?

Most LED lights last between 15,000 and 50,000 hours, which equals 10 to 20 years of typical use. Heat, poor ventilation or low-quality electronics can reduce lifespan. Our products include warranties and use reliable components so you can enjoy them for years.

Can I return lighting?

Yes, within the legal return period, as long as the product is unused, undamaged and in its original packaging. If something doesn’t look right in your home, we can help you find a better match. Just reply to the email and Franky will help.

Do you offer warranty on lighting?

Yes, all lighting comes with standard manufacturer warranty. If something becomes faulty, we check whether repair or replacement will be fastest. We always handle warranty issues fairly and professionally, because customer satisfaction matters to us.

How fast do you deliver in the UK and Europe?

Most products arrive within 2 to 4 working days depending on stock and supplier. Larger or special designs may take a little longer. You will receive tracking updates as soon as your package is shipped.

Do you deliver to other countries as well?

Yes, delivery is available to multiple countries. Shipping times and costs vary slightly. Many customers outside the region order lighting for homes, businesses and hospitality spaces. Franky can advise based on destination.

Can I track my order?

Yes, once your order ships you automatically receive a tracking link via email. If multiple parcels are sent, you will receive separate tracking codes. If tracking looks unclear, Franky can check it for you.

Can I change my order after placing it?

If the package has not yet shipped, adjustments are often possible — such as colour, size or quantity. Contact us quickly and Franky will check what can be changed.

Do you provide technical support?

Yes, customers receive personal assistance from Franky regarding installation, dimmer compatibility, transformers, wiring questions and planning. You can simply reply to our emails to get support.

Which payment methods can I use?

Credit card, PayPal, bank transfer, and other secure digital payment options. All payments are encrypted and protected.

Can I purchase with an invoice for my business?

Yes, just enter your company details during checkout and you will receive a proper invoice with VAT information. For larger purchases, we can prepare quotations.

Can you help with a lighting plan?

Yes, we provide guidance on number of fixtures, lumen levels, colour temperature, dimming options and style choices. For homes, photos and floor plans are often enough. You can email us — Franky will guide you.

Do you offer LED strips cut to size?

Yes, we offer different brightness levels, colour temperatures, RGB options and profiles. We can help you select the right length and recommend the correct power supply for kitchens, stairs, media walls, ceilings or outdoor spaces.

What kind of lighting is best for a kitchen?

Kitchens need functional lighting, so neutral white (3500K–4000K) and sufficient lumens are recommended. Worktops benefit from focused lighting such as under-cabinet LEDs. Pendant lighting can add style above an island.

Which lighting works well above a kitchen island?

Pendant lamps, track lighting or linear fixtures all work well depending on width, ceiling height and style. Franky can give personalised guidance if you share measurements and a photo.

How do I avoid glare from LED lighting?

Choose matte diffusers, indirect lighting, lower UGR ratings or the correct beam angle. In glossy spaces, light direction matters. Franky can recommend options for comfort and visual quality.

How do I choose lighting for a bedroom?

Warm white light, dimmable options and soft light distribution create a calm atmosphere. Reading areas may benefit from an additional focused source. LED strips in niches or behind headboards add ambient mood.

Can you suggest alternatives if something doesn’t fit or match?

Yes, send us photos, measurements and interior style and Franky will recommend similar or better options.

Can lighting be combined with smart home systems?

Many fixtures work with compatible dimmers, Zigbee modules, WiFi controllers or app-based systems. Franky can verify compatibility for you.

How do I choose the right track lighting?

Consider track length, number of spots, adjustability, lumens per spot and colour temperature. Track lighting works well in kitchens, shops, art displays and low ceilings.

Which lighting works best with low ceilings?

Flush ceiling lights, recessed spots or slim panels are ideal. Pendants are possible but should be short. Franky can check if a fixture will fit properly.

What lighting is ideal for a home office?

Neutral white light, sufficient lumens, even distribution and good colour rendering are important for productivity. Dimming can help for video calls and focus. We can advise based on your setup.

What should I do if my lamp flickers?

Flickering usually indicates a compatibility issue with the dimmer, transformer or voltage fluctuation. Franky can walk you through troubleshooting step by step.

Are samples or material finishes available?

For some products, yes. Ask us and Franky will check availability.

Can Franky give me personal lighting advice?

Yes, you can simply reply to our emails and Franky will help you choose products, calculate light output, compare models and select alternatives.

How do I choose the right lighting style for my interior?

Send us photos, colours, furniture and atmosphere preferences. We can help match modern, Scandinavian, industrial, rustic and minimalist styles.

Which lighting works well in shops, hospitality or commercial spaces?

High lumen output, strong colour rendering (CRI 90+), accent lighting and dimmable ambience are best. Franky can give tailored recommendations per business type.
